Name & Badge: Super Beetle Saloon 1302 (badged 1302 L with 'Luxury' package), 1302 S (badged 1302 LS with 'Luxury' package), 1302 L Convertible and 1302 LS Convertible. Also badged 'Volkswagen' (US and Canada) and Volkswagen S (Australia).

Suspension and brakes:

Front - Independent, transverse link axle, coil spring and MacPherson strut with dual circuit discs on S/LS (drums US), drums on 1302.

Elements of the suspension - both front and rear -
were also utilized in the 1976 Porsche 924.

Note: Some '71, and to a lesser extent '72, models were manufactured with torsion bar/ball joint front suspension for the North American and South African markets.

Rear - semi-trailing arm with double-jointed drive shafts and drums.
